Suffolk Wildlife Trust Photography Competition Rules

  1. The welfare of the wildlife subject of any photograph is of greater importance than the photograph itself - entries which show evidence of disturbance or distress to the subject will be disqualified.  Please take care to avoid damage to the environment in the process of your photography.
  2. Entries must be colour prints of 30 X 20cm or A4 maximum (excluding mount). They should be window mounted on cream coloured board.  On the reverse side, please write ‘TOP’ on the top end of the photograph to indicate orientation.
  3. Black and white prints of the same size will be accepted for the Landscape Category.  Entries for all other categories must be colour prints.
  4. The annual competition is open to anyone except professional photographers or those involved in the organisation of the competition or SWT employees.  A picture that has already won a prize in a major competition (one receiving more than 500 images) is not eligible for entry.
  5. You must be the sole author and owner of copyright in all pictures entered.
  6. An entry form must be filled in and enclosed with entries. A maximum of 3 pictures may be entered in each category, so long as each picture falls within the description of the category entered.
  7. An entry fee of £2.00 is required for each photograph.  Please make cheques payable to Suffolk Wildlife Trust.  Entry to the Young Photographer category is free.
  8. Young Photographer Category is open to anyone aged 16 or under (on the closing date). Entries in this category are free. Click here for full category rules.
  9. The title of your photograph, your name, address, telephone number and e mail address, together with the title of your photograph, and the category you are entering must be clearly stated on the reverse of each photograph entered.  Your details will not be passed on to any 3rd party without your permission.
  10. All plants must be non cultivated. Pictures of vertebrate animals taken in captivity, domesticated or restrained in any way, will not be eligible. You must declare if a picture of an invertebrate has been taken in captivity.
  11. In the case of protected species, pictures must be accompanied by copies of the relevant permits.  Entrants should note that without a permit from Natural England, the Countryside Commission for Wales or Scottish Natural Heritage, it is illegal to photograph some British species at the nest.
  12. Digital adjustments are acceptable, however the way in which any digital enhancement or editing has been used will be taken into account when judging the entry.  Cropping is allowed.
  13. Judges appointed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust will choose the winners.  The organiser’s decision on all matters relating to the competition is final, and no correspondence will be entered into concerning the competition's judges and organisation. Due to the high number of entries individual feedback is not possible.
  14. Should the quality of entries fall below the standards required, the organisers reserve the right not to award prizes.
  15. Only prize winners will be notified prior to the exhibition. The best of the remaining photographs will be exhibited. Entries cannot be returned until approximately one month after the exhibition.
  16. The organisers reserve the right to free reproduction and exhibition in all media, of prize winning and commended entries. Such reproduction will only be in connection with this competition and publicity for it.
  17. News about the competition winners will be released to the media and winning photographs will be published in Suffolk Wildlife magazine
  18. All entries are sent at the photographer's risk. SWT regret that they cannot accept liability for any loss or damage of any images entered in the competition (howsoever caused) nor for any other loss or damage resulting therefrom.
  19. RETURN OF ENTRIES : Photographs will only be returned if sufficient postage and packaging is sent with your entry. All photographers should enclose a self-addressed label, strong packaging suitable for re-use, and stamps sufficient for return postage. The number of entries submitted should be clearly marked on the back of your SAE.
  20. Entries will not be accepted after the Competition closing date: Friday 18th July 2008.
