The Sandlings Walk

The Sandlings Walk is a 60 mile long distance footpath linking heaths between Ipswich and Southwold. It was created as part of the wider habitat work supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund to safeguard the Suffolk Sandlings.

On setting out to explore the Sandlings you will need copies of Ordnance Survey Explorer Maps number 197, 212 and 231 - a copy of the Sandlings Walk pack is also invaluable!

The Sandlings Walk is divided into 11 themed walks which are described in the pack. Details of circular walks and cycle routes attached to the main route are also given.

The nightjar, as one of the rare and special features of the Sandlings has been chosen as the logo of the Sandlings Walk and is used to waymark the trail. Look out for it as you go.

There is also a series of 11 sculptures by local artist Henry Tebbutt along the route, showing the nightjar in pursuit of a moth - can you find them all?

The Sandlings Walks - A Step into History has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund through the Tomorrow's Heathland Heritage Programme. It is one of the many activities delivered by the Sandlings Group to safeguard the Sandlings.
