Lakenheath Poors Fen

“A remote area of original fen where the peace, birdsong and
general absence of human activity creates a fine atmosphere.”

This fen meadow is rich in wildflowers with an unusual mix of Breckland and fen plants including meadow rue, bugle, sneezewort and twayblade. Playful hare abound and the lovely song of birds like blackcap and nightingale can be heard in spring.

Insect life is abundant with many common species of butterfly such as wall and meadow brown, ringlet and gate keeper. Dragonfly hover above dykes containing lesser waterplantain and brookweed.

This reserve is noted for its creeping willow while other trees include purging buckthorn, birch and crab apple.
