The meadows on this mixed farm are like a piece of forgotten
Suffolk with their
skylark and wildflowers.
Theres always something special to see
here at Grove Farm where conservation
and commercial farming can be seen
working side by side. Left to the Trust
by Mrs Cooper in 1995 this reserve is managed under a Farm Business Tenancy
and a good circular walk takes in all the habitats on the farm.
In spring skylark can be seen hovering above the set aside fields and
snipe spend the winter in the meadows. Plants like southern marsh orchid,
marsh marigold, marsh valerian andragged-robin bloom in the wet meadows
bordering the River
Black Bourn, in early summer. On the higher, drier land flowers like self
heal, ox-eye daisy and common cats-ear can be found.
Dense mixed hedges consist of hawthorn,
hazel, dog rose, oak and willow.
Secretive otter have been spotted on
the grazing marshes and intersecting
dykes.
During harvest in July/August please
contact Suffolk Wildlife Trust before
visiting.
