Foxburrow Wood

foxburrow wood
“A haven of calm in a hectic sea of housing and traffic.”

Need a break from the hustle and bustle of town? This inviting wood on the Northern outskirts of Lowestoft is guaranteed to refresh the most jaded of visitors. In spring contrasting colours of fresh flowering bluebells, greater stitchwort and wood anemone combine to make a fine show. Other flowers typical of ancient woodland like twayblade, early-purple orchid and primrose, add to the scene at this unique urban oasis.

Mature sweet chestnut, oak, birch, sycamore, alder and ash trees are complemented by a series of ponds, ditches and streams where yellow marsh marigold, mauve water mint and common newt and frog thrive. Birds such as nuthatch, woodpecker and treecreeper, joined by summer visiting blackcap, chiffchaff and willow warbler, create a delightful song.
