
Ragged-robin
in the sun, dragonflies hawking in their run,
bogbean growing in a crowd, drifts of orchids standing proud

This is a unique fen meadow
with literally dozens of rare plants. In spring and
summer, early and southern marsh orchid vie with marsh
pea and bogbean for the flower lovers attention.
Other plants like red bartsia, bog pimpernel, greater
spearwort, marsh pennywort and ragged-robin can also
be found.
Grass snake, with their distinctive yellow collar,
and
Early & common lizard languish in sheltered sunny
spots and marsh orchid rare freshwater snails are
a speciality. In winter snipe and short-eared owls
can be spotted searching out a Bogbean meal.
This tranquil reserve is partly grazed
with horses and cattle and partly mown, to conserve
the diversity of its plants and other associated wildlife.
