Support a sandlings sheep - £15 a year
Our
sheep flock is grazing life back into the wildlife of the Sandlings
Since the 1930s, 80% of Suffolk's unique Sandlings
heaths have been destroyed through farming, forestry and development.
Half of the remaining heaths became overgrown as sheep farming and
firewood cutting declined. Sponsoring a sheep
for £15 a year will
help the flock continue to restore the Sandlings heaths through
their grazing.
How your sponsorship helps
During the summer months, the
flock graze their way
across one Sandlings heath after another, creating a
perfect environment for a rich variety of wildlife including the silver
studded blue
butterfly, stonechat, nightjar and woodlark. Later in
the year, the sheep move to Suffolk Wildlife
Trust's meadow and marshland reserves, where their
grazing encourages
orchids and other wild flowers
Your sponsorship helps us to
care for the Sandlings flock, including:
- medical care and preventative treatments such as worming
- feed and winter housing - especially in the run up to lambing
- transport between wildlife sites
- fencing to keep the flock safe wherever they are grazing
As a sponsor you will receive
a welcome pack which includes:
A photograph of your sheep and sponsorship
certificate
Information about the flock's work on the Sandlings
Ewe News - the twice annual newsletter about the flock
